[EVDL] 97 Honda EV+ vs. '11-12 Nissan Leaf

While everyone's kicking around EPA ratings, I thought I'd offer the follow=
ing observations from living in SoCal in '97 and getting to drive the EV+: =
Both the Nissan Leaf and the Honda have 24kW packs: the Honda _was_ NiMH=
, and _many_ people were surprised at getting real-world ranges of 100 mi. =
in (here's what I don't get) "freeway driving". Now we're looking at a 2=
012 Honda Fit with a 24 kW pack as well. 2012 Focus to have a 23kW pack, an=
d the list goes on! I like having options!

Thinking about converting a gen. 5 ('92-95) Honda Civic? My $23 "CivicWith=
ACord" DVD (57 mins.) shows ins and outs you'll encounter converting the se=
dan; the del Sol, or the hatchback. Each runs 144V/18 batteries. Primary f=
ocus on component/instrumentation/ battery placement and other consideratio=
ns. For more info, http://home.budget.net/~bbath/CivicWithACord.html

Would you still drive your car if the tailpipe came out of the steering whe=

I'll be able to tell you in a month or so. I had an EV+ for six years.
I'm hoping to get a Leaf by the end of the year.

In the EV+, I could get 100 miles on the few occasions where it was
necessary, but not at freeway speeds. For the last couple years I
regularly drove 80 to 90 miles including over a 2000 ft hill in the
middle of the trip. That trip had some freeway speeds, but up and
down the hill, laws limited the speed to 55 or so.
