I'm in Australia and I'm having trouble finding insurance for my ev that
isn't based on the age of my donor vehicle.

Are there any Australians on the list that have had luck insuring their
electric vehicles?

Cheers
Christie

We eventually went with Torque (underwritten by Lumley). While I know of others who have insured with Shannons, or even NRMA, at the time they weren't willing to insure our vehicle for the "cost" value.

Another thing to negotiate/clarify with them that you might not immediately think of is the depreciation rate. You might find, after having made all the calls and finally found a willing insurer, that a year down the track they'll want to cut your insured value significantly... and you'll be back at square one.

You may now have better luck with the run of the mill insurers than we did, but if all else fails you'll probably need to fall back to canvassing the speciality/unique (read: more expensive) car insurers like those listed here:

Cheers,
Claudio
