I finally got my brother, who is an electrician, to wire up a separate meter
on the 220 line that I use to charge my 1991 Dakota EV. I have checked it
twice so far on two different trips and for both trips the cost was almost
2.5 cents a mile. The first trip was down to Andrew Jackson State Park
which is in South Carolina. The round trip was 34.1 miles. The second trip
was into Monroe, NC. The round trip mileage for that trip was 29.3 miles
for a total mileage of 63.4 miles for both trips. If my calculations are
correct the cost of the two trips was around $1.62. I don't know of many
ICE cars that could drive 63.4 miles on $1.62 worth of gas. Gas around my
area is around $2.75 per gallon. So this would be about 2/3 of a gallon of
gas. I do not know how you would convert this to MPG but it would be nice
if someone on the list could make some quick calculations. Any way it has
been almost a year since I put the Dakota EV on the road and I have had ZERO
problems and Zero maintenance unless you count the small amount of water
that I had to put in the batteries. It is great owning an EV and I am still
having fun with it.
Thanks, Freddie
