The clerk at DMV says my car must be smogged. That the B clasification is
for Butane not Battery. Anyone got their pink slip handy. Mine is in the
safe deposit box. They want to see my car before issuing stickers.

Hey Lawrence, My California DMV gave me an "E" classification for electric.

Lawrence,

My US Electricar S10 (factory converted Chevy) shows on
the registration papers a USELE with classification 'E'
for Electric, no smog required.
If you can't get the clerk to properly classify it, as
for his or her supervisor to assist.
I hope they do not make you go through technical inspection
(again) before titling it as 'E' but if necessary, that may
be a way to get this corrected?

Which type of car is this?

The car is the electric Aspire. Which used to be a 97 but was down graded
to a 94 after a SUV rear ended it. I gotta go to my safe deposit box and
get the title & sort this out. Lawrence Rhodes.....

I had to go to the referee station and provide receipts for the
conversion to the dmv, which they had to send to Sacramento. They then
registered it with the motive code changed to E and no smog required.
But this cannot be done from the DMV alone, a trip to the referee
station to get the initial smog is required(different gov agency). The
receipts, I was told, were to prove I had enough invested that I wasn't
going to convert it back to gas and run ICE without smog. (which I
considered an insult LOL) apparently they were stung like that in the
past. It also required a highway patrol to sign off on safety things,
but the DMV's have an on-site highway patrol to do that.

When they gave me a phone number of a guy to call ( I think at CARB) to
get all the details, he himself used to drive an electric rabbit.
California is pretty familiar with EV converters. It was a pretty smooth
and reasonable process.

BE prepared to do your first show and tell. The referee stations here
(fresno, visalia) are embedded in vocational schools and I ended up
presenting to a couple classes. It was nice of them to let me recharge
there.

PS This was the Clovis DMV
