Hi David,
You are correct that US Electricar bought the S10 and the
Geo Prizm to create their two flavors of EVs, truck and sedan.
In the US Electricar Yahoo group we have significant support
for this variant of the US Electricar, as some members
depend on it for daily transportation of their family.
Even adding humble zener regs have stretched battery life
to more than acceptable levels, so please be not too quick
with information that may have been true a few years ago on
the OEM vehicle, but can be overcome with limited actions
by the new owner.
I agree that "dropping the pack" is not an easy procedure,
but it can be done at home and there even are alternatives
for the expensive Hawker batteries....

Subject: Re: [EVDL] electric geo on e-bay
I looked at one of these about 8 years ago. It wasn't built by GM as the seller implies; it's a US Electricar conversion.
They're very clean and neat conversions, looking almost factory perfect.
However, a warning - the battery is in a tunnel under the floorpan, which pretty much locks you in to using Hawker Genesis batteries unless you make major modifications to the design. The batteries need regulators but it's difficult to find space for them, so battery life can be short. The battery amortization costs for these vehicles can be crippling. It might be cheaper to keep a Hummer in gasoline!
It'd be interesting to see if one could find a way to fit lithium batteries to this car. It'd be a major project, though, and not one I'd recommend to a beginner.
