Does anyone have advice for obtaining vehicle appraisals for a conversion EV?

I plan on donating my '81 Voltsrabbit to the local community college for use in their automotive/ EV program and would like to include a reliable independent appraisal in my upcoming tax return.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and have hit dead ends using conventional IC sources. Ideas?

Thanks,

L.

I've not done it myself but another 914EVer did. I don't think he's on this
list, so here is the message he posted to the 914ev forum:

"A couple of you have expressed an interest in having their cars appraised
and asked for my experience.
I used Automotive Appraisal Services in Yorba Linda and dealt with Mark Koch
who I think is the owner.

He was professional and prompt. It cost $200 and it was done over the mail
with photos, receipts, and a lengthy questionaire. I was his first electric
car so there was a bit of a learning curve for him."

Hi L.
If you find no luck with locating an appraiser, I would recommend locating
receipts and quantifying the labor in building the project (don't forget to
include at least one photo in your paperwork). It would be difficult for the
tax collector to argue with raw data, even if it does not show either
appreciation or depreciation, whichever is most applicable.
Just my experience with such matters.

What about one of the experienced EV conversion specialists? I'm thinking
of someone like Mike Brown, Shari Prange, or Ken Koch (I think Ken still
does consulting even though he's retired). If Ken can't help you, ask his
successor at KTA, Wistar Rhoads. Another possibility, though he's on the
other side of the continent, is Bob Batson (EVs of America).

You probably know this, but you should expect to pay a fee for appraisal
service.

Thanks for all of the excellent suggestions, I'm sure one of them will pan out.
