I suspect that the Firefly battery was developed about 10-15 years too late.
Maybe even more than that. Heck, the Horizon battery flopped in the 1990s,
though that was no doubt partly because it blew its credibility capital on
reliability problems.

I'm obviously not a battery industry insider, but my guess would be that the
lithium juggernaut has pretty well swept most other immature battery
technologies from its path. Anything that hopes to make its way in the
marketplace for the next few years will have to be dramatically better in
specific energy, specific power, and/or cost - possibly all three.

But as I say, that's just my non-expert take on the situation.

I'd say you're spot on. Performance wasn't much better than an Odyssey, cost
was pretty high, and lithium was better and getting cheaper. Same reason
Ecolocap has dropped work on their CNT lead battery in favor of their
LithiumX.

Where do you get your Ecolocap news? I haven't seen anything other
than a dearth of news on their lead battery. I've seen your handle in
the ECOS.OB yahoo message forum. BTW, Ecolocap seems REAL scammy.
I read of "tests" of the LithiumX; VERY unimpressive. That hasn't
kept me from speculating in them, though.

"Miracle" lead batteries from Firefly, Ecolocap, Axion. Are there
others? I've been following all and have seen nothing other than
promises. I go WAY back in the miracle lead battery speculation
business. I got some ElectroSource stock as a distribution of Tracor
stock I owned back in the 1980s. Or did that go back to the 1970s?
Knew several people at ElectroSource that moved over from Tracor.

They did claim it would have much better cycle life. Sadly that's a moot point
now.

A lot of researching and some emails with Ecolocap and Halo Renewable
Energy. From what Ecolocap said the CNT lead battery was difficult to
manufacture and there was less of a market for it than the Li-X battery.
Lithium is all the rage now as we know. I agree that elements of ECOS look
sketchy but they do seem to be making some real progress with their M-Fuel
which should be undergoing EPA testing soon. Hopefully we'll see more from
the Li-X battery soon, but who knows? I've urged them to do better high C
rate testing on individual cells but so far they aren't listening to me.
They are tight on cash and paying customers dictate the testing, last test
was done by a company interested in large scale stationary storage so high C
rates weren't important.
