I dont know if this is still in use, but way back when Illinois had a tag tax, Chicago also had a sticker tax, a tag, decal that was put in your front wind shield corner, this was to pay for taxes. It was based on weight AND horse power. If I remember right most larger cities in Ill. had the same thing, so you were taxed twice.

Dealing with electric vehicles will cause a lot of head aches for all of us, the golden cow is GAS TAX, and no politician wants to see that go away, The society of "THEY" will always get you in the end, You know who "they" are, fairness is a dream to the public, and a nightmare to the politicians. So If the state in where you live knows you have an EV, I fell an extra 50$ a year for your tags sounds right, OK I can live with that, by weight? by HP ? who knows, ......So "they" will fight this for years to come...To do the right thing, which we all know is BS on our end .

After all who gets the corn cob, with sand as a lube up their ass after all the smoke and mirrors are gone???? we do, Its a natural political end run.... Its Friday and its my turn to bitch

The gas tax thing is going to go on and on and on here, the ONLY way a state will tax some one with a electric conversion is that the fool will tell them its an electric . A new factor built electric is a different story. The man is going to screw you one way or another . I have 2 electrics and the state of Kansas donst know or care if I do . And as far as a GPS locater goes to record mileage is never going to pass any state or fed legislation, This will be a huge right of privacy. They may put a new stupid tax on your power meter if you go over a certain KW usage.
But then again what are they going to do with the people charging with solar or wind..that screws the pooch for the man . Politicians run the government , so dont worry it probably wont ever go through. collectively they cant agree on what is the best time to take a crap .

Whats going to happen is that gas tax its self will go up, both state and fed. this way they will have in there greedy little paws from the start And do you really think they will use any of that tax money to fix roads and bridges??? and the gas guzzlers tax? Only if you buy or import a newer car, My 68 F-250 gets worse gas mileage than a Bugatti Veyron thats the truth 4 MPG at best. I pay no gas guzzlers tax ..If some states DO put in a state inspection system to check a cars safety workings, and they find out its electric....Oh My they found you out LOLOL, then the window sticker will show its an electric and you will have to pay,and pay, and pay Because every time we try and get over the man, he comes back and gets over you in spades . Looks whats going on right now.

100.00 a year is a small price to pay for road taxes. Your state probably could get about 100,000$ a year to go toroad repair. wow, thats enough to pay for 6 union people standing around a pot hole looking at it all day.
I dont know about other states but Kansas dosnt even require a working speed-o to get tags, let alone a working Odometer . all the new title has to show is what milage is on it at time of sale, under 10 years old. My question is how will the bureaucrats make a od tax work or how can they collect. GPS can be defeated by a metal screen over it , will will block the signal. and yes it works. Try it and see for your self .
As I see it, every one will have to pay higher taxes no matter what they drive,,Farmers here still get huge tax brakes for buying big SUVs as long as they use it for "farm use" LOLOL
" Honey, I'm useing the Escalade to back scrape the cow barn" LOL sure right . Dont cry about it, just pay the damn tax and be on your way theres nothing you can do about it but bitch about it. if they want to charge 500.00$ a year your going to pay it,,,,or walk This is how it works with Governments , they tell you to be fuel wise, buy small, buy good gas milage vehicles, help save the planet, hug your neighbor, save a whale, go green, live green, eat green, this way we can stick it so far up your but the stick taste like crap....by the way hows that hopey, changy thing going these days ,, can we say cap & trade??? thats next
