[EVDL List]

I'm reading on another forum about a type of battery that has lead
plates, but a silicate electrolyte. Has anybody on this list worked with
these?

If they're what I'm thinking of, they're essentially just gel batteries.
Nothing special. In fact, the stuff added to the electrolyte in a gel
battery is to make it spillproof is ... silica gel. Yes, that's the powder
that came in a little "do not eat" packet in the box for your new digital
camera.

The batteries of this type that I ran into several years ago claimed to be
"silicone" batteries and were made in China.

The electrolyte in a lead battery is sulfuric acid and water. The reactions
that make the battery charge and discharge work pretty much the same,
regardless of what gunk they add to it.
