[EVDL] I have a donor car for conversion!

My uncle's Jetta that he'd be happy to see go to good use is a 97 four-door.
That's about all the info I have on it at the moment.

I see on EValbum that there are several others done - good to know! I'm
guessing that a power to manual steering swap isn't too difficult on them?

Jeff,
What edge of the planet would that be on?

Sincerely,

I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean where am I located, I'm in Berwick,
PA (18603). Currently, the car is in the snow next to his garage/woodshop in
Bloomsburg, PA (17815).

...
After talking to my uncles, one of them volunteered a VW Jetta that he
has sitting for the conversion. I don't know more details because I
was ecstatic to be donated a car for free that I just said thanks! I
plan to get details on year/etc from him this week.

Working in a rehab facility gives me pretty good access to ALL KINDS
of batteries - the UPS ones I have now, as well as all sorts of
wheelchair/scooter batteries. When the time comes for a *real* pack,
I'll probably go back to that department and see what I can scrounge
up.

I basically want the car to be a "local driver." Not looking for more
than 45 MPH max, 30-60 mile range. It'll be used to run around town
here for 3-10 mile jaunts, and to show off to friends and family. Not
looking for ultra max range or racing configuration; just looking (for
the moment) to be able to say "it works!" with the stuff I have on
hand.
...
They were set up in series of 8 to deliver 96V at 7.2Ah. I have 8 of
these 96V/7.2Ah 'cartridges' (for lack of a better term). With 64
cells, I can afford to lose some.

To clear up confusion:
The 'small' batteries aren't going to go into the 'full size' EV for
road use. They're going to be for use as a bench test pack as well as
for a pack on the go-kart.

Chain of Events/Plan of Attack:
-Get go-kart set up for EV drive. Mount 2HP motor, make battery rack,
find proper gear ratio to drive axle with, sprocket, etc.
-Use 50A controller and UPS batteries to drive around with.
-Build 500A (or more) Open Revolt 'Cougar' controller that can use
12-144V nominal voltage battery pack
-Test new 'controller on go-kart (programming, soldering, etc)
-Get donor car from uncle, begin stripping for EV conversion
-While stripping car, hunt for BIG motor and different batteries.

I believe that should clear up any confusion. I hope? :)

I have a lead on an EZ-GO golf cart motor for $50. I don't know the
specs on it, but for $50, I figured I'd email the seller and ask.
