You are going to find that all meter sockets are going to be metal to
prevent mechanical damage. If you mount this on a wall to monitor the
charging of the EV, it does not make any difference how heavy it is.
You cannot beat the price you can get for a meter. You can get a digital
watt meters from Simpson for switch board mounting that will cost over
$500.00. Try www.surplussales.com. Sometimes they may have switch board
type of meters in stock that range from 0-120 watts to 0-2000 watts for
about $30 -$50.00. These may not be a recording type like a house meter.
Normally we can also purchase the meter socket from the power company too.
They may have the old socket type is round which was normally use for a
cable entrance, instead of the larger square type, that we now use conduit
to.
