[EVDL] kW meter socket?

727 Views 2 Replies 1 Participant Last post by  EVDL List
My utility company gave me a used kW meter.

It's nice and light with the round plastic housing,
and the four blades. It is 120volts.

However, is there a light indoor meter socket
available.

Home Depot had the 125Amp Outdoor Meter socket for
$50...but it is heavy!

I want to do this right.

thanks

Hello Mike,

You are going to find that all meter sockets are going to be metal to
prevent mechanical damage. If you mount this on a wall to monitor the
charging of the EV, it does not make any difference how heavy it is.

You cannot beat the price you can get for a meter. You can get a digital
watt meters from Simpson for switch board mounting that will cost over
$500.00. Try www.surplussales.com. Sometimes they may have switch board
type of meters in stock that range from 0-120 watts to 0-2000 watts for
about $30 -$50.00. These may not be a recording type like a house meter.

Normally we can also purchase the meter socket from the power company too.
They may have the old socket type is round which was normally use for a
cable entrance, instead of the larger square type, that we now use conduit
to.
