[EVDL List]

I'm looking at a 1987 Toyota truck in Tucson. I can't find any '87's on
evalbum, lots of '90+

Does anyone know if the pre-90s trucks make ok conversions ? (lead)
I'm attempting to find a listing of the GVW also, pretty tough to track down
before seeing it..

I believe that the '84-88 trucks are largely the same as the '89 - '94
trucks except for the revised body style for the later ones, and the IFS on
the 4wd ones after 1986. http://www.toyoland.com/trucks/tacoma-hilux.html has
a bit of info on them including some payload information. Same engines, so
the same adaptors should work. I think I've seen one or two conversions of
them, but I can't recall exactly where right now.

Not sure about the 87, but I do know a few things about a 93 toyota
conversion.

With 30 golf cart batteries you can get some decent range with lead.
It was easy to make the truck carry that weight, just add a couple of
leafs to the rear springs. The problem is that when you are right at
GVW, the brakes might be marginal.
The first time I came down a long 10% grade, the stop sign at the
bottom of the hill was a bit of a problem.

You might want to save your money and buy Lithium instead.

I'd say any mini truck from Japan would be a good candidate. Just look up the specs. & go to it. A selling point would be an extended cab with jump seats. If you're going to all the trouble of building an EV make it a nice one. My favorite would be a B2200 Cab Plus. The Toyota a close second. Lawrence Rhodes.....
