If you seem to have missed a message from the EVDL, please perform the
following checks :

1. Look in one or more of the public archives to see if it's there. The
current active ones are :

http://evdl.org/archive/index.html

http://news.gmane.org/gmane.recreation.cars.evdl

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ev/

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/evdl_post_archive/

If you see it in all the archives, most likely it's your own email system
that's missing the messages. Check your EVDL configuration page here :

http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/options/ev

and see if it mentions that your account has been bouncing emails. (This is
not definitive, as the bounce log is cleared after 3 days.)

Also check any possible spam or bulk-mail folder to see if the message(s)
may have been delivered there. If your email system has a whitelist, you
should put the addresses [email protected] and [email protected] on
the whitelist.

If you don't see it in the archives, please let me know about it. My
private email address is at the bottom of this page :

The private archive is good to have. However, when you think you may have
missed a list message, I don't suggest that you check the private archive to
determine whether the message was actually sent. The reason is that it's
"stocked" by the server itself.

OTOH, the public archives receive email from the list, just as the members
do. It there were a problem with SJSU's sendmail (or whatever Mailman uses
as a mail dispatch agent), the private archive probably wouldn't be
affected, but the public archives would be.

Dave, et al.

I haven't been getting any messages, none today and very few yesterday. Checked the archives and
there are lot's of messages I haven't received. No obvious reason, I'm not marked as a spammer/bad
guy in my profile. Anyone else having issues?

All of my messages are going into the SPAM/BULK folder
in yahoo for some reason now. It started a couple of
days ago, and now all the EVDL messages are going
there instead of the inbox.

Maybe after reading a message, you accidentally hit the "spam" button
instead of the "delete" button. That might cause Yahoo to flag messages
from the EVDL as spam, especially if it were done more than once.

I suppose it could also have been someone else on the list - I'm pretty sure
Yahoo's spam-marking algorithm works globally.

I don't know how to fix this, other than adding the EVDL addresses to your
personal whitelist. Suggestions, anyone?

I have a Yahoo account for monitoring the EVDL (since several listers use
Yahoo) but hadn't checked it in quite a while. Sure enough, I started
getting digests routed to the spam folder on the 9th, and recently most EVDL
digests have been getting the bum's rush.

According to the headers in the message, Yahoo flagged it spam on the IP
address 130.65.3.15. This is metis.sjsu.edu, which is the last hop in the
headers of a typical EVDL message.

> X-YahooFilteredBulk: 130.65.3.15

I checked the spam blacklist meta-lookup at dnsstuff.com and got no hits for
that IP address, so this is apparently a Yahoo-only deal.

My guess is that some Yahoo subscriber, probably accidentally, perhaps
thoughtlessly, maybe even maliciously (though I doubt it) clicked the Spam
button instead of the Delete button for a few EVDL messages. Now Yahoo's
spam filter thinks all EVDL messages are spam.

Here is what you can do.

If you use a Yahoo account to read the EVDL, open your bulk mail folder. If
you see any EVDL messages there, open each one in turn and click the "Not
Spam" button at the top. Do this for every EVDL message you see in your
bulk folder (I know, it's time consuming; sorry).

If I understand the way Yahoo's spam filters work, if enough people do this,
it will eventually decide that the EVDL isn't a spam source after all.

Another way you can fix this for Yahoo users, is in
your options section, you can setup a FILTER and an
EVDL folder. Here is what I did:

Subj: EVDL

If...

Subject contains "EVDL"

Then...

Move message to EVDL folder

Now when a message comes in, and it has EVDL in the
subject line, those messages automaticly go to my EVDL
folder. I actually like this, as now I can go
straight to the EVDL list and read just those
messages, and all the other inbox messages can wait
for later.

On my test Yahoo account, I spent a few minutes opening all the EVDL
messages in the bulk mail (spam) folder and clicking the Not Spam button on
each. Since then, >none< of the EVDL messages has landed in the spam
folder.

YMMV.
