There is one "intermediate" choice: a pack of SLAs like
Hawker/Eversys/Odyssey. Although they run ~$470 retail, the PC2250 can
be found surplus at half that, and 10 would run 830lbs, 120V/126Ah
(even at the 1C rate, they supply 80Ah). Maybe still too heavy/too
small of Ahrs for you, but some Lee zener balancers and a gentle
charger should make them last a while, plus no more watering.
