[EVDL] Programmable panel meter

Here's a programmable color TFT panel-mount display for US$125. The
display is 1.9x1.5 in. It measures voltages and displays a
customized meter.

or the long version:

Details are a little sparse. Apparently the "progammability" is
limited to what the bundled Windows app is able to configure.

There's hardware for lots of different kinds of inputs, but if I'm
reading it correctly, they're not yet enabled.

Anyway, here's another possibility for EV dashboard instrumentation!

Later,

Doug

US$125? Interesting. When I view the page, I see :

Qty Price
1 - 9 $116.85
10 - 24 $107.35
25 - 99 $102.60
100+ $96.90

FWIW, I have quite a few of the "web beacon" servers blocked with a software
firewall.

Pretty! But it doesn't look like a good match for use in an EV. It isn't
dust or waterproof, the temperature range is quite small, and based on
the type of display I suspect the brightness is pretty low. Jameco
www.jameco.com has been selling what looks like the same one for a
while now.

Oh yeah, right. I was thinking it was a reflective screen, but
probably not.

Same part number, (SGD-24M from Lascar Electronics). Jameco has a
lower price than Newark.

More information, too. Apparently it is also a touchscreen device,
although it would appear that this feature, like the SPI and I2C
buses, is not yet enabled. Ominously, the website about the
PanelPilot configuration software <http://www.panelpilot.com> says
that this version is free but future versions will be subscription-
based. Maybe we'll have to pay extra to use the advanced hardware....

Oh well, never mind. I'll wait for something more robust and less
proprietary. Or for this one to get pried open by the hacker
community :)

I rounded the price upwards. I wasn't sure if I was getting special
institutional or student pricing. I'd rather please someone (when
they find out the price is lower than I stated) than annoy them (when
they find out it's higher :)
