Hello EV'rs,
For those that do not know me, I was one of the original EVDL members when this list was created way-way back in the 90's. Since then, I used what off-time I had (when not working-working-working) to help promote EVs, learn from the EVDL's wealth of EV knowledgeable people to empower me to have a 1985 S-10 Blazer converted to Electric, attend and or arrange EVents promoting EVs, testing and trying-out different off-the-shelf EV chargers, promote fast public EV charging by driving my 50 mile range PbSO4 pack'd EV conversion from Silicon Valley to Sacramento and back six different times, documenting these EVangel experiences with posts on the EVDL, ... plus a whole lot more.
Some might ask where are all these good EV deeds documented? The phrase the 'Internet is forever' did not seem to apply to me. Most of the 15 years worth of EV work I have done is no longer up. Even the EVDL archive does not have anything from before 2007.
EV-less: being in the wrong place at the wrong time, lost me the EV that served me so well for over 15 years (those that did not wish me well, got their way). It has been hard going through EV withdrawals, being away from the EVDL, not being able to do as much as I used to do for the EV cause, plus resolving all of life's other hardships.
...
But it is now the year 2010. We have a new administration in charge. The fat cats bilked the Gov for bailout$ (so they have less to fight EVs with), and not too long ago the public was made aware of $4+ a gallon petrol prices (see the future, feel the burn). Attitudes have changed.
Call me an optimist, for I see the same positive EV spirit and enthusiasm the EV community had in the 90's. Because of this, I decided to poke my head out and encourage people who have EVs to attend rallies and EVents promoting the EV cause. I fear without people knowing all that went on in the 90's, history will repeat itself, and the public will just get fooled-again.
This could be a rallying cry for old-timers that went through those days (briefly described in the movie 'Who Killed the Electric Car') to keep today's public aware of the same old sneaky tricks, oily-funded negative ads disseminating dis-information, and other dastardly deeds that companies that EVs threaten will do (have lots-o-money, will-corrupt).
I hope to make EVDL posts that help the EV cause. May it be announcing EVents, sharing of my fast public charging experiences, or whatever else to help. And at the same time, I want to learn of the new pack chemistries, and their charging management equipment, etc. (once an EV charging-nut, always a charging-nut).
Please direct any EVDL off-topic messages or comments off-list by emailing me directly.
Thanks,
Bruce {EVangel} Parmenter
