Hello,

I switched over to Lifepo. I have an ng3 that has 3 stages
cc/cv/float

The issue is, while I can adjust the end of the cc stage via the U pot, the
float stage seems to be much higher than what I set U at. So for instance if
U is set to enter CV at 168V the float is 182V (this is left over from when
it was set for 13 gel cells.) I havent found any way to either delete the
3rd stage or turn down the float voltage setting. The cell curve is a bit
vauge. It says the float ends when the voltage crests but it doesnt say what
that number is. At any rate its higher than 177V (3.7V a cell) where I
terminated the charge.

So far the only option is to send it in. But for reasons I dont want to get
into I am looking for another option.

Anyone know of a way to cut out/lower the float stage or to just get a
control chip so I can pop the old one off and then the new one on?
thanks

It is my understanding they have to be sent in to Zivan to be reprogrammed.

The only way I got my NG1 to work was to set the ending voltage during
the "yellow" stage of charging. I had to use just shy of 4vpc. I
finally received charge curve options from ElCon and then spent the
$75+shipping to get mine reprogrammed. You could get the 3.65vpc curve
then adjust the voltage using the U pot.

Thanks for the replies.

David,

Are you saying you are able to adjust both the red and yellow with the same
pot? (Ie you adjusted the finish voltage for the yellow phase or did I
misunderstand?) I only tried to adjust the red phase then waited for the
yellow to finish.

I adjusted the ending phase. My BMS boards shunt at 4.00v so I knew
that was the upper limit but when I tried to have the charger end at a
lower voltage the charger would enter the absorption phase (I think
that is what the ending phase is called) too early and time out
without filling the cells. It would take several restarts at only
about 6A to fill my pack so I lived with ending at just under 4.00vpc
so that I could always get a full charge. The first time I charged the
pack I kept an eye on the charging and when the voltage approached top
of what I wanted I turned the U pot until the current tapered to zero.
I watched a Kill-a-watt meter on the wall to see the power from the
wall. Remember that the U pot is actually a calibration pot so that if
they program in a particular voltage the meter responds correctly to
it. I didn't like charging my cells so high so I finally sent in my
charger. The beauty is that now the charging goes full tilt until the
last Ah or so. I'm actually charging to 3.50vpc right now and it only
takes 10-15 min to taper from the CC mode to the end of the CV phase.
During the last hour or so the charger comes on and off but only puts
in a few mA of current. Most likely if I had no parasitic loads it
would sit at zero current until the timer shut off the charger. BTW, I
have a 200Ah pack in a 2S20P arrangement.

HTH,

PS. I'll pm you the charging curves I received from Zivan.
