A radioisotope IS radioactive, lowlevel or not. It's not a
fission reaction, but I wouldn't exactly call it 'safe'. I would be
very surprised to see this offered directly for sale to consumers. The
only radioisotope devices I've ever seen on the market are smoke
detectors.

Yup. Agreed.

It would be great though!

After al gasoline and many other things are much more dangerous than
this particular idea. And as you say smoke detectors (and gas camping
lamp cloths) are on the market for consumers and they have the same type
of radioactivity.

So does old yellow china but it is now banned.

Yes but if the half life is sufficiently short then within 100 years the
output will be below background levels for beta emitters.
Amzing thing about declining logarithmically.
