My inverters include transfer switches. But I also have
manual switches labeled UPS/Line/Off.
So my 4.5 kW solar system is a UPS, an un-interruptible power
supply.
One of the things that made me decide to stay with 96 volts
in my EV was that I could split the pack, parallel both halves
with my 48 volt Solar System batteries, doubling my reserve
capacity. When the Sun shines all the batteries get charged.
The coffee pot, a (electro-mechanical )clock, and the telephone system
(they share the same outlet) stays on the grid, allowing me to calculate
down-time, and see when the system comes back up.
I have a lightning rod above my roof-top solar panels, direct to ground.

My doctor said yesterday "I doubt global warming, but burning oil is
TREASON".
