Expanding my knowledge

Hello everyone,
I'm a HVACR technician and a long time metal fabricator. I've built many gas powered motorycycles and cars but I've always been a nerd as well. Being an HVACR tech I have lots of electrical experience with motors and controls also.
I recently was given a free Honda Aero 80 scooter and it's the perfect father daughter project. We plan to convert it to electric and I'm here to read up and learn as much as I can. A little research and I quickly realized there is a lot more options than I first thought.
My initial idea was to get a small AC motor and find a drive somewhere that could power it but then I started seeing the options of cheap BLDC kits and that opened a can of worms.

Yup. Lots of scooter kits out there. I'd keep it simple vs building something that'll do smokey donuts in a parking lot.

Yeah I'm really wanting something simple because my daughter has never taken much interest in what happens in my shop but she was interested if we did it electric and it's going to be here to get around town and school. So reliability and decent range is my main priority but keeping it simple will keep her interested.
Our now 6-year-old was putting lug nuts on my truck (backwards, but screwed on), on her own initiative and without a demo or coaching, at 18 months. The others, when in their teens, could care less about paying attention while I was trying to show them how to change a tire. It's all in how you're wired, from my experience, and you can't force or even bait them into it.

Sounds like yours is self-motivated by the cause - making a statement/stand...which is good. More reason to have a kit so her eyes don't glaze over and so she doesn't lose interest as you thrash on parts and making it all interoperate. It may broaden to a wider interest, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it. Take & run with what you have, lol.
