Good Day community
I'm Francois, based in Johannesburg South Africa, and we are planning to convert a 1981 T3 Campervan from a CU series 2 liter Petrol engine to Electric. Starting with the costing of the big ticket items and seeing if its at all viable. if anyone has done this, id love to network with you.

No problem, just throw in 2 rear hub motors like these and attach an appropriate battery.
Peak power of 30 kW provides sufficient acceleration, and with 15 kW permanent you should be able to go almost 50 mph.
No gearbox or clutch needed

I don't think hub motors are a good idea in general. Dirt and debris tend to get stuck in the bearings. There's a reason that hub motors aren't in any production EVs.

Loads of people have converted VW Buses which are very similar vehicles. I'd recommend looking into what those people have done. A used DC motor and some batteries pulled from a Nissan leaf would probably be the way to go.
Hub motors are just a quick and easy way to get going, without the need for machining.
The bearings may need a better seal, maybe from a quality manufacturer - at a fraction of the effort, compared to a engine conversion. They are quite costly, though, compared to a used DC motor.
