"fuel guage"

hey, im converting a car at 72v nominal, i have the battery set up as 2 72v batteries one under the hood, and one under the trunk( each 72v is 6 batteries in series)

and i have this curtis 48v " fuel guage" that i would like to put in the dashboard. would it be accurate enough if i put it reading on 4 batteries in series out of the whole 12 batteries?

thanks

i would make a voltage divider. Google it. my 2 cents.

Use your multimeter until you can afford the correct one.
ok, so ill be using the volts to find my charge. now when do i check my volts? while driving, right after driving, while cruising?

thanks

Keep it up front with you secured to the dash or some place you can see it and keep it on and within hands reach. You may need extra long wires to reach to the most positive and most negative battery in the pack. Or the easiest way to say that is the first and last battery in the pack. Just keep it on. You will see the voltage sag as you accelerate and you will see it bounce back up as you release your foot. To get an accurate of current voltage you just let it set for a sec so the voltage will rise. It will still be not as high as when you let it set a minute after you stop. It is not an indication of amp hours removed from the pack but at least you have an idea of what your vehicle is doing while your driving. If you know what the end voltage should be then you can better judge when you should be back home. Take some small trips out to get an idea of how it will work and what you have left over after the drive. It is better than nothing and you know the voltage and not just some light on some gauge. Do you have an amp gauge too?

Yes and while accelerating. It gives you an indication of what is happening and you learn a bit more about how it all works. :)

well, on my first test drive i had tons of monitoring. i have an alltrax 7245, and i had my laptop inside the pasenger seat so he could tell me everything thats going on. the laptop displays battery amps, motor amps, voltage, controller temp, and throttle %

i want the final vehicle to have a laptop in the car perminantely, or similar to a police crusier, so i dont need to bother with shunts, and many guages. i just had an idea though, does anyone think someone will be able to make a program, similar to alltraxes boring display, but that turns the voltage reading, and amps into guages? that would be awsome, as i am determined to keep a laptop in the car.

thanks

The Syncromotive has gauges for it's computer read out as well as text based and logs all activity. :)
what is a Syncromotive? im guessing its a program? if you could point me into the direction of making a digital guage that would be wonderful
oh :( how can i get guages on my alltrax
G
Talk to Altrax :) Maybe they will build one into their computer program for their controller.

I did this with my ESCORTEV - connected the 48 volt gauge to the 4 batteries in the "middle" of the pack - it works perfectly and has never let me down. Ken.
