Hello, I'm skulking around this forum look for any information on the possibility of adding AWD to my 1998 Civic 2dr. I apologize in advance for my rambling
The Car
The vehicle is a 1998 civic(EJ8)
It is a 1.6L(D16y8) fwd manual car, with VTEC.
The Idea
Swap the rear end out of a CRV for AWD(very common for AWD swaps in the civic world). The only issue with this is AWD transmissions cost a fortune and require an engine swap. So I have come looking at EV conversion. The Simplist solution I've come up with is a CRV diff directly driven by and electric motor. I believe this is called a Spit-Axel hybrid(possibly Siamese motors?) I would also need to modify my intake manifold to a drive-by-wire throttle so I can control the electric motor easily. I'm fairly mechanically inclined so I'm not to worried about getting dirty.
Pros
Hybrid green and all that
AWD quick launches
Lots of extra torque(Hondas aren't especially known for torque)
Cons
Knowledge need = High, knowledge had = very low
Highly labor intensive
Never done before at least to my knowledge
Weight, it'll probably add a lot of weight which is counter intuitive to Hondas and make normal driving worse. The weight is my main concern
If you've made it this far thank you very much. Any rabbit holes you can send me down would be greatly appreciated.
