Hi to all from the western south side of the north of America, or the north western end of latin america

I am new to EV's but not so new to cars or to electrical stuff. So I decided to combine both areas into one and so I made my mind up to start a project to build an EV.

Will it work? I don't know, but we'll see. :)

Having several cars laying around (Honda's and Ford's) I see no problem on choosing the right base frame. So I decided to start with the drive train first, and leave the battery and frame matters to the end.

So here I am. Because I like to go a bit beyond regular edges I decided to explore not just on building an EV, but on building it a bit different. :D

Just for the sake of making my life difficult, I want to try a multi-phase system (more than 3 phases) and see how well it performs against a regular 3-phase one.

The way I plan to go is something like this:

1. Go with the motor first. Design it and have it rewound properly.
2. Then I will jump over the controller portion.
3. At the end I will get into the battery stuff.

At some point I will make my mind up as to what base frame I will use.

I am so new to this forum I don't even know if pictures can be uploaded here to show progress. But that I will also figure out a bit later.

Nice to meet you all and cheers.

Hi Jorge,

I looked into this and fail to see a significant advantage which justifies the added complexity. But then I must admit, I don't fully understand it. Anyway, have you seen these guys? http://www.chorusmotors.gi/index.shtml

You know? It comes down to what you want to do. Build an EV? Or develop a 283 phase motor :) Chances are the two are mutually exclusive, unless you have really deep pockets.

Anyway, glad you're aboard. Have fun

Welcome Jorge! Nice to see a new face. Where in Mexico are you? I'm in San Diego (not too far north of the border).

Sounds like you are going to have your hands full on this project. Do keep us informed on your progress - sounds like fun!

Cheers,
Peter

Hi major,

Following your lead, I just looked into those Chorus guys but I guess it looks like I have some homework to do before I can get any deeper into their stuff. No deep pockets here....wish I did. Your question, though, is very important: what do I want to do.

In short: I want to build an EV that performs. Having been into street racing for some years, now I would like to build an EV and take it to the strip. To begin though, I think I want to build something "regular" (whatever that means), some grocery-goer type, and then take it from there to push it a higher notch.

283-phases!!!!! :eek::eek::eek: ........ mmmhh, interesting. :rolleyes:
