Introducing myself and my 911EV project

Hi all,

I figured I would introduce myself. I have been reading the threads for quite a while but only signed up this week.

I have been wanting to build an EV since I saw an electric VW pickup with a truckbed full of lead acid batteries in 1994. Since then I have pondered it and figured someday I would pick a car and make it happen. Then kids came along, and everything else that gets in the way.

Then a few years back I bought a Fiat 500e, then a Tesla 70d. The latter really ruined me. No longer am I going to be satisfied with an affordable "peppy" EV project. I now need to build a sleeper vintage car that outperforms anything I come across.

Being a long-time Porsche enthusiast, and having always wanted to restore a vintage Targa, I figured that I should do both dreams in the same project. I am loving what I am seeing with the Tesla drive unit projects around here (like the Teslorean) and figure to follow suit.

Of course a 911 roller is not cheap, and now I am looking at a high end conversion to boot. So this looks to be a long-term project to fund over a year or two stealing mostly from my kid's college fund. Also, I have a moral obligation to find a motorless or mis-matched numbers car that has no chance of having large collector value.

So that's my story. Hopefully I will start my build thread in the coming months - fingers crossed.

Thanks all,

Paul

While the Teslorean is a great project, 911 RSR with Tesla Motor is much closer to your situation... but I assume you've seen that discussion.
Thanks Brian,

Yes, I should have mentioned the RSR project. I am just too hurt that he removed the factory sunroof. But I will get over that and get back into the thread soon :) It's a really great project being done with care.

But then again I LITERALLY took a sawzall to my '78 VW Rabbit when I was 16 years old because I wanted a Targa THAT BAD. I had to let the sun come in. Nobody had really informed me of the structural properties the roof was providing. Closing the doors kinda propped it up and I drove the only VW Rabbit Targa in the US for about 100,000 miles! So filling in sunroofs is about as opposite of a thing that I can think to do.
Any questions, I have been converting for over 25 years.. check my web page.. Greenshedconversions.com .. lots of info.. videos and I am on Instagram: ElectricCarsByGreenshed.
