Embarking on a leaf project to convert an old vehicle. Ev resolve looks like a winner. Project viability hinges on cost and keeping bms, charger etc is a real deal breaker if i salvage a complete leaf.

but… 24kw pack size is a limiting factor. I assume Expanding the pack isn’t an option if retaining the resolve control, standard bms etc.

But… what if I had another identical 24kw pack in reserve and I literally switched the controller from one pack to another?

im very competent fabricator however I’m cramming info on Ev tech so apologies if the logistics of this are laughable. Just struck me as a possible concept useful to others on a budget.

Someone did this with a Nissan Leaf back in the day by doing what you say; using a physical switch to switch between batteries. He had to turn the car off, switch, then turn it back on but it worked. I believe he had a fire due to wiring or other faults, however.

For it to work with the Resolve controller I believe you need to be able to switch not just the high voltage from one battery to the other, but also switch from one BMS connector to the other. I assume it would work if wired correctly.

I have the same thought process. Unfortunately Isak with Resolve told me it's really hard to have two Leaf packs hooked up and working simultaneously but he is working on it.

Thanks for the feedback.

2 packs on one controller would definitely be the optimal setup. I guess you’d maybe have to run 2x leaf BMS. But still a cheapish option.

But even a switching system sounds like it’s possible then. I’ll have to look into multi connector switches / relays.

I guess charging would be another issue but again I wonder if a simple switching system or even automated system could be implemented.
