what if any would be the advantages or disadvantages of building a pack from lithium-ion cells?
As opposed to what? I'm assuming you mean lithium as opposed to lead acid.

Lead acid is heavier and has shorter life, but is cheaper entry. Long term the costs pan out or perhaps even better (it's hard to say because the lifetime on lithium cells isn't well tested at this point, we only have manufacturer's stats really). These are very fault tolerant as well (you can overcharge/overdraw them and while you shorten the life, they do not usually immediately fail under reasonable over-exertion).

Lithium is lighter and gives better performance (less Puekert losses), but has a higher entry price. You will most likely want a battery management solution (BMS) as well to help regulate the cells, as they are not as fault tolerant.

good info, i was meaning as opposed to FLA and lifepo4 as well, these cells seem cheaper than lifepo4s but are definatly more expensive than FLAs.

lithium-ion is a generic designation. LiFePo4 is a lithium-ion battery. Lithium-cobal is a lithium-ion battery. What particular chemistry/model of battery are you looking at?

compared to FLA, maintenance is much lower, and you have no gassing to deal with. Much cleaner system that is. And charging/discharging is much more efficient (as someone said: the internal resistance of FLA gives a lot of losses).

As soon as I can afford I will convert to lithium, I am very tired of my FLA's fucking with me... If you have the money, buy lithium! :)
