As opposed to what? I'm assuming you mean lithium as opposed to lead acid.
Lead acid is heavier and has shorter life, but is cheaper entry. Long term the costs pan out or perhaps even better (it's hard to say because the lifetime on lithium cells isn't well tested at this point, we only have manufacturer's stats really). These are very fault tolerant as well (you can overcharge/overdraw them and while you shorten the life, they do not usually immediately fail under reasonable over-exertion).
Lithium is lighter and gives better performance (less Puekert losses), but has a higher entry price. You will most likely want a battery management solution (BMS) as well to help regulate the cells, as they are not as fault tolerant.
