Can anyone enlighten me on a rule of thumb of efficiency of magnetos. Do I look at this like it's a perm mag motor and use the efficiency rating?
What I'm trying to figure out is we have a 150 watt magneto on a 10,000 rpm engine, how much power loss am I going to have at 10,000 rpm. The ratings are usually based for a lower rpm such as 3500 rpm. The engine only produces 90 hp to begin with, I don't want to waste any power by using the magneto to charge the battery if I don't have to. If it's 1 hp that's fine, but 4 hp it's time to remove the magneto charging system.
