I am trying to find a suitable donar car for an ev conversion and was considering a Mazda MX-3. The weight is listed as 1095 KG. This will be my first conversion and I was wondering if there is something I am overlooking as to why this wouldn't be a suitable vehicle. It appears to be fairly light and aerodynamic. I was originally looking at a GEO as it seems that a lot of them have been converted but the MX-3 has more appeal.

The MX-3 has been used for an EV conversion too.
I have a red '93 myself and have considered converting it,
but it is just too old to be worth all of the money and effort
that I would put in to it. It is small, and would almost have to
use Lithium batteries to be viable. It is sleek and racy looking though!
There is a college in West Virginia that converted one but I have
not been able to find a link for it today.
Bottom line, it will work.

should work just great. you might wanna contact CanEV.com or other tranny adaptor people to see if they have something compatible in stock or at least in their repertoire.

The newer mazda3 is a LOT heavier, and maybe not as good as other choices. A newer hatchbacks that are occasionally available for decent prices are the chevy aveo, hyundia accent, ford focus.
