I just purchased a 2004 Mercedes-benz C240 to convert to EV. I have the Electric Vehicle Conversion Handbook, but want some more tips for the parts I should look for since the book is a tad dated. I really want to focus on range (~150V +) and I want regenerative braking so probably AC. I was going to try to get an electric BMW for a donor for it instead of buying all the individual parts. I was also looking at the MACH E electric engine but would that even fit in my vehicle? And Tesla seems to make the best batteries although I would like to avoid using Tesla parts, I would if it’ll make my conversion smoother. Any help will do! Also will be needing a mechanic to do the conversion in NY area, Philly or NC

Your book is worthless.

A "mechanic" would have no clue of how to do the conversion.

A Tesla battery is not the best out there, unless you only ask Elon Musk.

Range means weight. Your car is puny.

What's your budget? To have someone else that's competent do it, versus learning and making mistakes on your dime, plus parts, long range, likely >$100k, and a more than two year wait.

Range doesn’t mean weight, I’m not even done with the book yet and know that. I do know my car is light and aerodynamic, that’s why I’m going to convert it. I’ve seen similar conversions to what I want to do for $25k and less. And yes a specialist mechanic would, I’ve found several who specialize in EV conversions, I’m trying to find one that’s closer to my area and not across the country. I’ve attached an example of how I want my conversion with a similar car and cost. Let’s keep BS pessimistic posts off this thread
