Seems like a waste to ditch the rear diff for the motor, though.

for sure, just providing options. i have axle stub adapters designed for the outlander diff ill get done at some point.
some would prefer to keep the original drive line. this makes it much more "bolt on" for some folks

That makes perfect sense. For instance, if I ever went ahead with converting our Triumph Spitfire the Outlander rear motor would have adequate power; however, the entire unit would not fit in the stock vehicle frame, so the option of putting the motor in the transmission tunnel with a reduction gearbox (driving the original final drive) would be desirable.
