Motor amperage at different voltage

So I got a w forklift drive motor and when I connect to 12v it uses 135a settling at about 85a and at 24v 170a settling at 82a but at 36v its 190a settling at 91a it doesn't seem like it is how it should be should it settle and start less amp pull if voltage is higher?

If you held the motor stationary it would just be the resistive load - 12v = 1000 amps

But you let it spin - and the spinning generates a back EMF - which reduces the voltage that drives the current

Be careful - you can quickly overspeed a DC motor just applying a voltage - I personally would never apply more than 12v to an unloaded motor
