Motor amperage at different voltage

If you held the motor stationary it would just be the resistive load - 12v = 1000 amps

But you let it spin - and the spinning generates a back EMF - which reduces the voltage that drives the current

Be careful - you can quickly overspeed a DC motor just applying a voltage - I personally would never apply more than 12v to an unloaded motor
