Need help. Elcon 3.3 DOA?

Hello. I completed a vw bus conversion to a hyper9. Everything works as it should except the charger. I was briefly getting a half an amp coming from the charger then nothing. The can adaptor error light is on until I unplug can plug from charger. All other can components work as they should. I get 60 omhs across can high and low until I plug the charger in to 110. I then get no continuity across can high/low. I’m using the 110 volt plug it came with. Yesterday when I checked resistance at charger can plug, I got zero ohms. Can lines also went to zero. Not sure if charger was plugged into 110 or not but today when charger is plugged into 110 I get no continuity at charger plug. Until about 45 seconds after charger unplugged. I’m new to this but it’s been fun. Any insight greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Unfortunately there is a random-.5-.3 amp displaying in Orion software when not charging. Just a strange reading. This elcon was never charging. Local shop connected to their can diagnostics and just said can corrupt coming from charger side. This ev works perfectly in every aspect but the elcon. Doa

OK understood.
I have seen that phantom -.3A before on Orions. Still a mystery to me. Maybe that's why they included "ignore current less than .4 Amps" checkbox. You may be able to switch the displayed current between average current and pack current on the newest app. Noise has caused unstable readings in at least one instance I recall.

As for a replacement charger, all I would suggest is to watch for something used, cheap and somewhat functioning, but that is my tendency.
I see you are using new parts on your build, so if buying new hopefully some more advice comes up for reputable distributors.
Bunch of common faults described in the elcon repair thread, but I don't know if they ever got as far as CAN. Hmm they did and there were wiring issues and related stuff. 3rd post or so on first paste talks about pdf s

Thank you. I will look through these.
A few things to try/double-check:
Orion BMS set to 500 baud.
Orion third party devices set to using Elcon charger.
The Orion itself is normally supplied with Can 1 terminated internally, ie it has 120ohm termination on Can bus 1. But, some are not (I think you have to specifically ask Ewert to supply one unterminated and it's possible you have one of those).
Sounds like you have trouble with the CANadapter. I assume you can connect your computer running the Orion software to the to Orion OK? Page 26 of the Orion wiring manual shows how you need to add a 120ohm resistor across the pins of the lead that you connect the Orion to the CAN adapter with.
On the 6.6KW Elcon charger I have, it's hard to see the pin numbers on the dataconnector plug/socket on the charger so do be sure you don't have the CAN H and L the wrong way round.
I didn't use CAN shield.
You MUST ground the Elcon chassis to the same ground the Orion is using. I don't mean CAN shield / ground, I mean 12V chassis ground (NOT your HV circuit!).
Are you using J1772? If your control pilot/proximity pilots aren't wired correctly the BMS won't instruct charging to start. There is also some software settings for this in the Orion but it's all in the manual ...

I'd start with why the red and green lights are on for the CANadapter, I think you may have the charger's CAN wiring reversed.

And to add, the message back from Ewert seems to suggest they have already terminated the can adapter which I don't quite get. If they have and you have also terminated that lead, that could cause issues. Some devices are better with dealing with dodgy CANbus than others so just becuase 'everything else' is working doesn't mean the bus is set up correctly. See that diagram on p26 of the wiring manual. If the CAN adapter is already terminated you won't need that 120Ohm resistor across the pins of the DB9.

I have never come across an Orion Candapter that is internally terminated (I just bench confirmed this also). If they were, connecting them to a proper bus would bring the bus resistance down below 60 ohms and not do any good.
I believe his charger was supplied with the harness stub for CAN so it was still a possibility that HI and LO were being used backwards.

Peet12:
Did the local shop try connecting to your charger with the can lines swapped also when testing and run thru the different possible baud rates with both configurations?

Finally got new charger. Bought from Hawkeyeinnovationsllc. Direct replacement and it works as it should. Finally charging through j1772 and the Orion bms. World of difference from trying to make the wrong charger work.
