Hello,
I just came across this site today and it seems like a great place for someone building an EV. :)

I just bought a 73 Opel GT weighing in at 2100 lbs and solid as a rock.
Here's the first video of the cars conversion.

I have never done any electric anything except for my radio controled RC10 car when I was a kid. So I have ordered the book "Convert It" and plan on jumping in feet first.

Hope to make new friends and help others with their projects.

Good luck on your conversion! I'm hoping you can maybe take a few photos and list some of the triumphs and pitfalls as you go through this project?
I tried to buy an Opel for my project, before I found the Yugo, but the fellow didn't want it ruined by being electrified.
Instead he sold it to a kid that wrecked it soon after.
I think it will make a good project.

I don't understand how he wouldn't want to sell the car if it's going to be electrified. I mean it's going to be improved, not crushed.
Anyway, I'll bet he wished he'd sold it to you now.
You should never say what your plans are for the car until you own it. People love there cars even when there selling them. I didn't say a word about the plans I had for the Opel GT. All I said was I was looking for a project car something I could fix up. I could tell from talking to the guy that he had a lot of memories with the car. So I didn't want him to think I was just going to chop it up and gut it.

When I bought my Civic, I actually did tell him what I had planned for it. The seller got multiple offers because his price was hot but he called me back saying he liked what I had planned for it. I bought it and he asked that I email him pictures when I'm done...come to think of it...I better dig up his adress. I too used Mike Brown's "Convert it" book and pretty much did my conversion by the book except in a few areas.
