Ok, I've been lurking for a bit and I've been doing a ton of reading but I'm now stuck.

I have the bug to build an electric outboard for a project solar pontoon. The donor outboard is a 55 hp mercury with a thrown rod.

I'm Eyeballing two motors on ebay pretty hard. But, No amount of googling has provided me with any specs for one of them.

I'm hoping that someone here is a little more familiar and can tell me if I should pull the trigger or keep looking.

I'd pick the second one, D&D, if I were you. You'll have a couple performance points from the description. Looks new. Good price.

You'll not get 55hp, at least not for long. But from the little I know about hull speed, the 5 or 6 hp will push it around.

I've been leaning that way. Mostly because the specs are right there.

I was intrigued by the first motor having 8 brushes though.

Bigger (more) brushes wouldn't yield advantage on marine propulsion unless you're drag racing. GE makes a darn good motor and for the same money you'd get more bang for the buck with the GE but I doubt it's needed for the boat.

Maybe the red paint is new but the GE is used. Also appears to be a 2 terminal pump motor.... non-reversible. And I bet you'll want reverse on the boat.

Gotta sell a couple of body parts on ebay before I can afford the motor. Hopefully it wont sell before this project is funded.
