Israel on high alert for Iranian warships' Suez transit. Kharg brings missiles
DEBKAfile Special Report February 18, 2011, 7:39 PM (GMT+02:00)

Iranian Kharg with missiles for Hizballah

Cairo's approval Friday, Feb. 18 for two Iranian warships to transit the Suez Canal on their way to the Mediterranean has brought Israel and Iran closer than ever before to a naval collision at sea. debkafile reports: Israel has learned that the Iranian cruiser Kharg is carrying long-range missiles for Hizballah which it plans to unload at a Syrian port or Beirut harbor.
Friday, Israeli government and military officials were urgently casting about for a way to prevent those missiles reaching the Lebanese terrorists. Heavy US and Israeli pressure failed to dissuade Egypt's military rulers from letting the Iranian flotilla through Suez. So now the waterway has been opened wide for Iran to consign heavy weapons deliveries to Syria and Lebanon - in the first instance, and eventually to try and break Israel's naval blockade on the Gaza Strip and bring Hamas the heavy munitions that were impossible to transport through smuggling tunnels.
On February 16, debkafile reported:
Twenty-four hours after Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the Egyptian upheaval had no military connotations for Israel, Tehran applied for the Iranian frigate Alvand and cruiser Kharg to transit the Suez Canal on their way to Syria Wednesday night, Feb. 16. Their passage was termed "a provocation" by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. In Beirut, Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah said he was looking forward to Israel going to war on Lebanon because then his men would capture Galilee.
Israel was closely monitoring the Iranian flotilla, whose visit to the Saudi Red Sea port of Jeddah on Feb. 6, preparatory to transiting Suez, was first revealed exclusively by DEBKA-Net-Weekly481 on February 10.
Up until now, Saudi Arabia, in close conjunction with Egypt and its President Hosni Mubarak, led the Sunni Arab thrust to contain Iranian expansion – especially in the Persian Gulf. However, the opening of a Saudi port to war ships of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the first time in the history of their relations points to a fundamental shift in Middle East trends in consequence of the Egyptian uprising. It was also the first time Cairo has permitted Iranian warships to transit Suez from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, although Israeli traffic in the opposite direction had been allowed.
Iran made no secret of its plants to expand its naval and military presence beyond the Persian Gulf and Red Sea to the Mediterranean via Suez: On February 2, Iran's Deputy Navy Commander Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Khadem Biqam announced the flotilla's mission was to "enter the waters of the Red Sea and then be dispatched to the Mediterranean Sea."
However, Israeli military intelligence which failed to foresee the Egyptian upheaval and its policy-makers ignored the Iranian admiral's announcement and its strategic import, just as they failed to heed the significance of the Iranian flotilla's docking in Jeddah.
debkafile's military sources report that Iran is rapidly seizing the fall of the Mubarak regime in Cairo and the Saudi King Abdullah's falling-out with President Barack Obama (see debkafile of Feb. 10, 2011) as an opportunity not to be missed for establishing a foothold along the Suez Canal and access to the Mediterranean for six gains:
1. To cut off, even partially, the US military and naval Persian Gulf forces from their main route for supplies and reinforcements;
2. To establish an Iranian military-naval grip on the Suez Canal, through which 40 percent of the world's maritime freights pass every day:
3. To bring an Iranian military presence close enough to menace the Egyptian heartland of Cairo and the Nile Delta and squeeze it into joining the radical Iranian-Syrian-Iraqi-Turkish alliance;
4. To thread a contiguous Iranian military-naval line from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea through the Suez Canal and the Gaza Strip and up to the ports of Lebanon, where Hizballah has already seized power and toppled the pro-West government.
5. To eventually sever the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, annex it to the Gaza Strip and establish a large Hamas-ruled Palestinian state athwart the Mediterranean, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea.
By comparison, a Fatah-led Palestinian state on the West Bank within the American orbit be politically and strategically inferior.
6. To tighten the naval and military siege on Israel.

As always the Government and Industry will use any news and distort it to make money. Those two ships going from Iran are unarmed as by the International regulations. One is just a cargo ship. If there was any invasion or provocation planned it would be many ships armed to the teeth with troops. But Iran also wouldn't risk their navy in a stupid move, they would simply just use missiles and air strikes against Israel. It is all disinformation to raise prices on oil and on food.

Egypt agrees to let 2 Iranian vessels transit Suez Canal Egypt agrees to let 2 Iranian vessels transit Suez Canal 18 Feb 2011 State media on Friday said Egypt has agreed to let two Iranian naval vessels transit the Suez Canal. State-run news agency MENA said that authorities approved a request from Iranian diplomats who offered assurances that the two ships won't have weapons or nuclear or chemical material. The move had been widely expected and Iranian officials have insisted the request is in line with international regulations.

Who honestly believes there are no weapons in those ships? I'll bet my boots there is a dirty bomb style warheads for Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran has been caught multiple times trying to ship weapons into Lebanon, now they are trying to hand deliver the goods. Watch, Israel will attack.

Higher oil prices can trace their beginning to the deregulation of all products prices by Regan & the Republicans.

I wonder if the Republicans in congress will be so quick to stop the oil prices from rising any amount & the price fixing Futures & Commodities Market. As they are about lowering the prices of wages & benifits of all Americans after we have to pay the money to the government. :)

The silver spoon fell out of my mouth at birth.:)

Wages up -.5 % And the prices of all goods used by Americans up 100s of %. :)

Deregulation is working. :)

The US economy peaked in the 1970's, and we have been maintaining our standard of living with credit ever since, and there will be hell to pay.
Once capitalist systems peak, the demand for workers drops, and the general standard of living plummets. The result is either a move towards socialism, or fascism. History shows examples of each, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the US.
If we were presently paying what oil really costs society, most people would be driving electric cars now, or walking. Those of us pioneering electric transportation are doing a great service to our country.

Computers, Robotic assembly workers, voice computers & a total cave in to hand held social lifetimes has NOTHING to do with the decreasing need for people ? :)

I sure do not need very many people if the Robots are doing their endless assigned jobs.

NO type of government has a thing to do with the lack of people needed today.

Which Master Clone will populate the planet ? Bush or Cheny ?

It is expected to see oil prices go up during any middle east turmoil, even from riots and protests and change of power. TPTB will use it to their benefit to get richer and break the little buys back, which their whole agenda is to create a welfare socialist society run by only those in power.

However the question is, will we let it happen in America or not?

So build our own EV's, making our own Ethanol for generators for backup electric, building wind mills, using solar for charging are all things that help us get through those tough times ahead. One major reason why people convert their ICE's to electric is to get out from under being a slave to the pumps.

When gas hit $5.00 a gallon there was a huge increase of people who converted their ICE's to electric, but those who wanted to and didn't may realize that if they can do it they should do it now because in a few months gas will be extremely expensive again.

Oil, Gold, Silver and food are all going up every week. When oil goes up, gas follows and then food and everything else. When I was building my shop I bought a 2x4 for $1.58 each, then 2 months later when gas was going up it then turned into $3.58 for each 2x4. Milk went to almost $5.00 a gallon. It was freaking crazy.

Now gas has gone up every single day in the last week. A few cents one day, then 8 cents another week and it keeps going up almost 7 cents every few days here. Just a month ago it was $2.75 a gallon, then BAM it jumped to $2.89 a gallon over night. Now it is well over $3.00 a gallon now and climbing. I wouldn't be surprised if gas hits $5.00 a gallon by the end of May and keeps going.

As for the crisis in the middle east, yes there is always the potential threat, but Iran is falling, Libya is falling, Saudi Arabia is next and China has protests going on there now. There are 13 Countries in protest at this moment. Most of them provide oil to the US and Europe, but notice how the Government refuses to just rely still upon our own oil resources (which would be cheaper than importing it).

So those with EV's have planned well. Those who just rely upon oil and gas will feel the crunch of the rising oil prices within the next few months more than ever.

Even just turning a motorcycle into an electric bike can save money in the long run or build your own electric cart or an electric ATV because waiting too long will just make it harder to come up with money to build any type of EV when gas and food prices are eating up everyone's paycheck.

When going electric why not go the whole hog and use green and renewable energy sources like the sun or the wind. Oil and gas prices have been steadily rising since the time economy got a boost from the bailouts and increased federal spending. The emerging economies are also consuming traditional energy at an alarming pace. Oil and gas prices are not going down for a very long time and even if they do it will be only for short periods of time.

I'm betting you are young. In any event you are mis-informed.

Gas prices adjusted for inflation.

If anyone wants a good review of what is coming then go to:

www.endofamerica3.com and watch the video. It is free.

The man who made that video has many good points and his calculations are we will be truly suffering by the end of this year.

We may think the 1930's depression was bad to read about, we are about to find out what its like ourselves.

Crooks, extortionsists & price fixing.

The prices are UP UP before any REAL LASTING shortages happen.

Let working people, office & factory raise their wages the same way & amount.

Republicans would have the US Army taking people to work at gunpoint !!

They are WAY out of bounds.

The real people causing terror, are the people running the USA FUTURES & COMMODITIES markets.

GREEDY, LAZY people who have nothing to do but create panic among ALL incomes of people.

The middle east is in turmoil. The prices are going up in anticipation of shortages as production is already down in many of the oil producing countries. Isn't that how economics works?

Hopefully this time real money will be spent on research into alternatives. The British unit that recombines carbon dioxide with hydrogen to create methane gas is one such project. Hydrogen production needs research into better methods of production or separation really. Hydrogen is hard to handle and contain but methane isn't. This process creates a carbon cycle rather than releasing carbon that was trapped thousands of years ago so at least it's a cleaner alternative and a renewable energy.
If more realistic fuel alternatives are found this strangle hold on oil will only hurt the income of the people causing the problems.
With oil dependency out of the way what reason would there be to go to war? World peace? Tell him he's dreaming

Yes, oh so greedy. Not.

Gasoline Prices Adjusted for Inflation since 1918.

Before this moment you were simply ignorant.

Now that you have actual facts in front of you, if you repeat that nonsense again you will be a liar.

Once again, the specter of ever-increasing gas prices looms as a boogey-man. Yet, for a one-time conversion fee of around $1,500 every gas-burning vehicle in America could be converted to Propane, or Natural Gas. Inconvenient? Yes. The end of the world? Hardly.

What should a barrel of oil change in a year?

What would you set the price of it today ?

All converting WILL cause that to sky rocket.

What part of price gouging by Wall Street pricing do you not understand ?

Fox News is saying a old Arab shiek is sick. Oil goes up $5 dollars ? Let the guy die at least.

Newspapers & Wall Street. Perfect together.
