I love old machines like that. I had no idea battery powered Locos were ever used though.

The only info I could find was on the display board.
Next time I am there I will try and find out some more about it. This time I had other things on my mind.;)

London Underground uses battery powered tractors in the event of power outage to pull passenger cars to nearest station in emergencies. Also there are some battery powered tractors in RR yards

Another interesting approach to yard locomotives was a "thermal battery." In this locomotive they had a heat sink (not sure of what material - perhaps rocks?) through which superheated waste steam from a factory was blown for hours at a time. Then, when the sink was hot, it would be used as a source of heat for boiler to power the locomotive for a shift.
