Yes a forklift motor would do fine
At its usual voltage (48v?) it will only do about 1500rpm - if you want more revs you will need to run at a higher voltage
People use 150v quite regularly - I'm an exception because I feed my forklift motor with 340v
The advantage of sticking to the original voltage is that you can use the controller from the forklift
