I have an opportunity to pick up a Mini for a pretty sweet price, but it has a bad transmission. I have also been looking a lot at wrecked Nissan Leafs. My thought is to take EVERYTHING from the Leaf and shoehorn it into the Mini. I saw the Nissan Leaf on a pegboard, so I should be able to get everything working inside a different car, if it will work outside a car.

So let me post the basics:
-Your skill level with auto mechanics and fabrication
I have worked as an auto technician and am a mechanical engineer. I am actually planning on creating Solidworks drawings of all the mounts that I am going to need to create.

-The range you are hoping to get (how many miles/charge)
Since I am using the Nissan Leaf batteries in a smaller, lighter, but probably less aerodynamic car, 60 miles or so.

-What level of performance you are hoping to get
Not too important, but I wouldn't mind being able to get on the freeway sometimes.

-How much money you are willing to put into your project
I'm hoping to be under $6k.

-What parts you've already considered, if any.
See above. I see CV axles as being my biggest hurdle after actually fitting the motor/controller to the car.

So, my question to the masses is, has the Leaf drivetrain been installed complete into another vehicle successfully? I've done a few searches and haven't found one that is complete.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi Tyrer, I'm in the same path than you :)
I bought a 2004 Mini Cooper for cheap a few days ago with 2 problems : CVT tranny and refuse to start.
I spotted a totaled 2015 Leaf and was beginning to think of an Electric Mini Cooper. Major challenges are CV axles and Batteries location.
