Hi everybody,
So i've been thinking about starting a new project, but really have no idea where to start, haha. Mechanically the conversion will not be a problem, but my knowledge of electrical systems is pretty much limited to 1980's era electrical systems and home wiring. So this will be a learning experience for sure, but isn't doing the best way to learn?

As far as my expectations I'd love to see 60+ miles per charge, and just as quick if not quicker than the stock motor (130ish HP). I do think it would be neat if I could have two driving modes, one for milage and one for acceleration. One thing i'd love to do is autocross the car after.

My budget is subject to change, but 5-8k seems to be fairly common and i have no problem with that.

No plan for any parts yet besides the starting car. So i'm very open to suggestions.

So that's my plan in a nutshell. Feel free to bring me back down to earth if need be. Thanks everyone!

I think your requirements are reasonable. Which is a bit unusual for a newbie :)

Keep in mind that as a rule of thumb you only need 1/3 to 1/2 of the power in an electric motor to match the performance of the ICE motor. This is because of the massive torque and very flat power and torque "curves".

Also there is really no need to have two modes. Its not like an ICE motor that would have 2 tunes to handle the two scenaros. In electric motors you tune it to be as efficient as possible and that covers both scenarios simultaneously. Then when you want performance, you put your foot down, when you want economy you go easy on the peddle. The only reason 2 modes might make sense is if you don't trust your self control, then introduce an artificial limit.
