This will be my first major car project, but I have some experience with robotics and the like. Anything more than 30 miles of range will be enough, and although highway speed is not a priority as of now, it probably will be in the future, so I would not like to rule it out with the motor and controller I purchase now.
My current plan is an AC-34 motor, keeping the original transmission, and eventually using 6 to 12 of Tesla's 3kWh, 57V 18650 battery pack (room & cost permitting). However, I am not the experienced one here, so I would love some feedback and suggestions :).
I would like to know more about the options for bms and chargers with these batteries, specifically being able to charge with a 120V outlet(s), and eventually maybe a 240V charging station. I was considering using a small solar panel for the 12V system only, but I am not sure if a normal car battery would last in several days of poor weather, or if it would actually cost less than a DC-DC converter.
My hope is to finish before the end of the summer, and I can't wait to hear from you all, and I especially can't wait to get started!

AC 34 coupled with stock tranny would hit 80mph easily.
With 6 of Tesla 3kwh modules, you should get 50 miles range per charge at 50mph.

Which charger are you considering? Make sure the pack voltage range is inline with controller range.

Since the original post was made four years ago and not followed up, I think it's reasonable to assume that this project never started.

Also, as of a few months ago those battery modules are likely no longer available, as discussed in Places to find the 57V 3kWh Tesla Batteries. They were long narrow things - it would have been interesting to see how they might have fit in a Spitfire... presumably longitudinally over the front suspension, steering, and motor.

Oh, didn't notice the posting date. Not sure why this came up as one of the top posts in the section
