Hey, everyone! I'm new to this forum and new to DIY conversion, but I've been keeping an eye on electric vehicles and other alternatives for a long time. Now that we're "comfortable" with $3.50/gallon here in NWA (Northwest Arkansas) I've decided it would be economically feasible to build one, not to mention I've got my Dad to help me lending his years of experience in working with cars.
If anyone can offer advice, help, or wants to contact another potential-EV-r in NWA, my e-mail is [email protected]
I truly believe being integrated as a community is what will make EV's ultimately successful.
Good luck all.
- Experience: Novice, but some help
- Range: 60/mi. to a charge, taking less than 12 hours. It's a first, so it's a modest goal. Aiming for a commuter car. Must run in the winter, including snow.
- Performance: 45mph would be acceptable, 55~75mph would be ideal.
- Cost: ~$7000 for a first-timer project over a long period of time doesn't seem unreasonable not including donor car price.
- Parts: Largely undecided. Lead-acid batteries, single-motor, Curtis controller -- seem viable.
