My mitsubishi Lancer 2003 is about to leave for a better world

in my previous posts I wanted to build an electric bike I will do but having a car is a priority

After a lot of reading I noticed the cheapest conversions are the smaller ones

I will go with a Tercel

That I am still shopping. Who knows maybe someone will list one with a blown ICE. It is a car with a normal ICE in between 1.3L-1.5L with 13''wheels with a curb weight of 1950lbs. Rather small and very very light. If you have better options please let me know.

Range - 31miles range or more would be perfect (80% DOD)
Speed - 60mph or more would be target (Less than 10 minutes)
Acceleration - Equal or faster than ICE cars

My post is all about my setup before I actually go to the bank!

I have a setup in mind

#1 - 40KW BLDC with programable controler @ $3950 - 288v nominal
- 90 Lithium Batteries would the 40AH cut it? 50 x 90 = $4500
- Manzanita Charger PFC20 @ $2050
Total = 10500$ + Crumbs

Or setup #2 is pretty much a backup plan I discussed with Rillip3 to minimise the cost
(144v)

#2 - Netgain Impulse 9 @ $1550
- Soliton1 @ $2800
- Lead acid batteries @ $2000
- Manzanita Charger PFC @ $2050
Total = $8400 + Crumbs

Any thoughts?

Looks like it should be a good converter. It might be easier if you take a manual rather than automatic; the ones listed there I saw were automatic.

30 miles is easy with PbA. For 60 mph you want to go with a higher voltage, probably 120. You'll be looking at 31 x 300 = 9300. 9300 x 1.2 x 1.5 = 16,740 kwh for FLA. At 120v that means you'll need 140 Ah batteries or better, and 150 is pretty commonly available. AGM will give a lower Ah needed but may not have as long of life.

In my eyes there is not even a price difference. The lithium pack will give you maybe even more life then 2 Lead acid battery packs. You will have regen breaking that will save pads and maybe a bit of energy back into the pack. Only thing about the AC setup is that it is relatively unknown.

Yea thats why I will not touch AC

Avg of 300WA/MI x 31MI = 9300WA x 10% loss = 10230WA
10230WA x (20%DOD) = 12200WA / 288v = 42AH PACKS

Does this mean that I will travel approx 30 miles for a 20% DOD of the 40AH packs? and 60 Miles If I am buying the 80AH packs?
and 120 miles for the 160AH packs!!! :O

$18750 / 225600KM = $0.0831 Per KM

Before buying whats in my cart I need someone to tell me app how fast I will go and if this setup is recommended.

Am I missing something?

ok, I"m not really sure what you're going for here. Are you talking 80 cells at 3.6v each?

Let's make this simpler. Let's say you have 80 100ah cells. Fully charged resting voltage should be more like 3.35/3.4v per cell. A tercel should run you much less than 300wh/m.

80*3.35= 268volts*100ah=26800*.7 (conservatively using 70% DOD)= 18760*.95 (Lithium Peukert)= 17822/250(tercel wh/m) = 71mile range per charge.

Do you want to spend that much money on a Tercel? Not being a snob, just saying you still want to end up with a car you feel is worth the money you've put in to it. Plus, where will you fit 80 cells? What is the weight of 80 100ah cells? Maybe fewer, but higher Ah, cells and a DC set up would make more sense?

Watch ebay for an lead acid conversion and simply update it if needed. There are lots of people doing conversions these days. This is how I would have done it if I was to do it again. Ah who am I kidding I wouldn't of changed a thing I love my Opel.

Don't just run out and get the first cheap car you find. If you wouldn't drive the car when it had a gas engine you won't like driving it as an electric. They still rattle the same. :)

Now if your a car guy and got the money then go get you a nice classic and start converting.

Thank you for your inputs. I am on forums and reading about electric conversion almost 8 hours a day (during work)

rillip3 told me to go to FLA with a nice wrap 9

but the thing is I dont want to purchase things that I will not want in the future.
I would really love to stay with the BLDC setup from currentectech
I want a reliable system to show the gallery and something that would save me money over time.

I tought of 288v setup of 90x 100ah cells = 288v or 342v full charged(3.8)

I went with the tercel because of numerous of things
1. Lightweight
2. Affordable
3. 13 inch wheels
4. Many cheap parts
5. easy to work on
6. (it fits in my garage)

If ever I wanted to change cars overtime cant I just swamp the electronics?

My friends and girlfriend thinks converting is the worst idea that I had in my life. I would like to prove them wrong

I def need help with the basic setup so I can start converting

I have 18,750$ and car is not in that price

Motor is 105 LBS
controler is 23.1 LBS

Tercel Coupé (2 doors) is only 1950 LBS
less:
ICE with all attachments
radio and speakers
back seat
12v FLA

I dont mind if my setup needs to be changed but I would like explanations of the recomended changes. After all I am still learning :D

It's me again! while trying to find subventions from the city and the government I got refered to a shop that converts petrol cars to electric cars in Quebec Canada. He told me if I did the conversion myself the chances that the SAAQ, car issurances of Quebec, wouldnt accept the car as insurable car. So it would be a complete waste of money... He also mentioned that he has a hard time to get his cars approved... but I checked his cars and they start at $20000 and they are the lead acid ones........... 144volts with 40-50KM range....

while mine, is going for an easy 77km ... I dont know what to do...
anyone can help?

I forgot to mention that I decided to change the TERCEL for a Mitsubishi LANCER 2005
looks much nicer and I had a 03 for over 6 years! they look awesome and they are cheap
