Re: [EVDL] '83 Chevy Impala...?
More like 3800 pounds. I had an '85 Impala, remember
these are full-size Chevrolets and not "down-sized"
models as the rest of the Chevy lineup went to,
although they were a bit lighter than some previous
full-size Chevrolets. This design went to 1991, then
in 1992 they went to the new aero style.

1983 Caprice V8: 3900 pounds. The V6 wasn't a lot
lighter, it was basically 3/4 of a ~450 pound V8
engine.
A lot of those vintage Caprice/Impala had soft springs
and won't handle much extra weight, but it is quite
easy to fit stronger springs to these models.
If you start with a lighter car, you won't have to
purchase as many batteries to get the same range &
acceleration. But if you need lots of room with
relatively good handling, this is a good car. It has a
traditional frame and you should be able tuck away 30
or so 12V batteries in its vast confines.
