Re: [EVDL] Charger Adaptors

Hi everyone,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Currently working on a Geo Metro AC
conversion, planning to install a Manzanita PFC 20 and was wondering where I
could procure an adaptor to make use of EV charging stations (i.e. AVCON
type chargers). Most times I will use my home 240 outlet in the garage, but
have an AVCON at work that I'd love to hook up to for free. Thanks for any
tips.

Sincerely,
Coby Skye

Coby,

You need the Avcon inlet. You can buy these from Avcon directly at

http://www.avconev.com/

or from the EAA at

http://www.eaaev.org/eaamerchandise.html

(scroll down to ADAPT1)

The EAA also sells some used Avcon 'charging stations' that you could
use in your garage.

Re: [EVDL] Charger Adaptors

By the way, the Avcon adapter (has the diode and resister built in) from the
EAA Merchandise web page.

Re: [EVDL] Charger Adaptors

Well, you will need more than the inlet because the Avcon charging station
will not turn on and supply 220 without the signal from the car. This
signal is produced by a diode and resister on the car side. A small DC
voltage is turned into a square wave by the diode and the amplitude of
square wave tells the Avcon charging station the type of batteries and what
current can be supplied. Some charging stations will also turn off after a
minute of use if the charger is not power factor corrected.

Re: [EVDL] Charger Adaptors

How are people with PFC chargers and Brusa NLG5 series Chargers
doing this? Could anyone who has used either of these provide any
feedback as to the implementation?

Mark,

I had my Avcon system working with a Brusa NLG4 and a PFC-20, using
the information written by Tom Stockebrand. His documents show how
to build a simple circuit to handle the Avcon's pilot circuit/signal.

I've put that information online on a quickie web page:
