To bring this now off-topic discussion back on topic, nearly every
conversion EV has its vac-gauge equivalent - a simple ammeter. Most also
have some kind of gas-gauge equvalent, usually an amp-hour or watt-hour
meter.

This is nothing new! EVs had these a century ago. They provide the driver
with valuable information on his or her energy use.

The main difference I can see between them and the Leaf's and similar
factory EVs' is that theirs are glitzy computer displays, while ours are ...
well, analog gauges and not-so-glitzy computer displays. I'm pretty sure
that some EV hobbyists have even managed to make fairly reliable miles-to-
flat indicators.
