Re: [EVDL] how good is the warp 9 motor? - Jim H. question

Jim,
Perhaps I missed your reply on this motor,
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2007090717314411&catname=&qty=1&item=10-2120
www.surpluscenter.com, item 10-2120
Since it is a 9" and 150lbs, it's approximately the
same size as the 96V EV motors that GE gave away to
high schools and universities back in 1992-94.
I would think with a little TLC from Jim it would make
a nice EV motor. I can't imagine them making major
changes to the design to save costs, in fact I believe
the 96V series motor just had a different field
winding but were basically 3-5 klbs forklift motors.

Has anybody on the list bought one and tried it?
I'm pretty tempted, but I'm sure shipping would be at
least as much as the motor.
Rod

Hey Rod

This motor was talked about a while back and I think
someone did buy it but then cancelled the order. It's
a compound wound and a lot will depend on how the
coils are wound. I would think that winding some
series wound coils (maybe just winding two coils to
match the strap wound ones in place and it would
probably make an awesome motor. Alas, I'd have to see
it's guts to give a better opinion on it though.

If I had a few grand lying around I'd buy up the lot
and do them up for resale 8^o

Hope this helps.
