Re: [EVDL] Hybrid Technologies PT Cruiser Taxis (was: Walmart (Sam's Club) to be sell
The PT Cuiser is officially classified as Light Truck
because Chrysler could not get the MPG of this vehicle
to the level required for passenger cars by CAFE.
The average mileage of Chrysler cars would have been
lower than acceptabe when including the PT, so they
kept it out of the calculation of the average Chrysler
car CAFE by classifying it as LT, which has its own
(lower) level of CAFE standards.
Now, the common wisdom is that when you start with a
car that has bad mileage and convert it to electric,
it will still have bad mileage, so I am not surprised
that the range is lower than expected.

Hello All,
There was an article not too long ago where a bunch of PT Cruiser Taxis were returned to Hybrid Technologies because they did not perform as advertised. Here's a link to the article:
http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/07/16/electric-pt-cruiser-couldnt-cut-it-as-ny-taxi/
The central theme of the article was that NYC was expecting 100 miles per charge on 10 hour service each day under taxi cab driving conditions and the usual range was 40 miles with a lot a time on car transports.
This Sam's offering could end up being another black eye for EVs.
Caveat Emptor.
I wonder what Hybrid Technologies did with the PT Cruisers? A 40 to 100 mile range would suit me even if I had to redo the engineering.
