Actually I suspect half of what is driving the development of the Volt is a
desire to include a high mileage rating into the corporate mileage figures
to hedge against CAFE requirement increases (the other half being a green
corporate identity). As long as they sell Volts, they will be able to keep
cranking out 6000lb utes. Maybe that's enough incentive to build them, and
keep the price within reason. So the most effective means of getting it
done may be to push the politicians for higher CAFE ratings.

I Googled Braude Initiative, I didn't find much. Is this the California
requirement that brought the EV1, that got shot down? That was based on a
requirement for selling EV's, not just an increase in CAFE, right? A CAFE
increase based on reducing CO2 might be easier to sell but achieve the same
result.
