Whoever wrote this article won't be satisfied with anything less than a 10 =
passenger E-SUV that charges in 5 minutes, has a range of 500 miles and las=
ts 200,000 maintenance-free miles. I'm sure he also feels that it must be a=

t it could compete with an ICE vehicle.

It's true; I have a bent for classic cars. I really do enjoy driving my '74=
Bug, not just because I get the EV grin, but because I just LOVE arriving =
at the mall or the Metro station and discovering a parking spot real close =
to the main entrance that I can use because 2 dumb-fsck SUV owners parked s=
o close to the yellow lines that only a compact car could fit betwixt them.=
It's not even a Super Beetle and it still hugs the curves pretty well. It'=
s a fun drive.
=

I mean hey people, I own a new, GM crew-cab pickup truck but at least I'm s=
mart enough to use it only when required and not to pick up a gallon of mil=
k at the store all by my self. At the rate I'm using it, it should last 20 =
years.

Re: [EVDL] NY Times article

I think you refer to one of Lee's sigs.

I think it is even stronger worded (or another version)
that reads: perfection is the *enemy* of the good.
That is truly the feeling I had after this article,
exactly as you described: the EV is not perfect, so it
cannot be used instead of the ICE cars... duh! =

BTW, there is one thing to consider when parking next to
other cars, especially when parked particularly awkward:
there is a large group of people in the USA which cannot
enter their car if someone parked with less than 2ft
clearance from their car.
I suspect that is why they park their car this way - they
need that there is no other car next to theirs, but they
cannot legally claim two spots (or their car will be towed)
(in the company parking lot the Hummer *does* always have
the white stripe exactly between the two wheels, according
the "wisdom" I found about Hummer parking: how can you best
park a Hummer? In two compact parking spaces.)
I have two dings in the side of my Prius, both at the same
height and containing white paint and about 1 door distance
(3 ft) so I am guessing that my wife or I parked it within
2 ft from a white car, plenty for us to get out but either
the other driver needed to get in the back (groceries?) and
get in the driver seat, or the family shares the same
circumference, in either case the doors had to be banged
into our car to make enough space to get in.

That is why I prefer to park in such a way that I am at least
2 ft away from other cars, or park *real close* to one cars'
passenger door - so close that it is impossible to open it,
which requires them to drive the car out of the spot to let
the passenger enter, all the while giving me more space at
the side of the other car - which usually means the driver's
door.

In case both sides have their driver's door towards your spot,
check which car has the most space at the other side, then
park real close to that car's drivers side - he or she will
have to enter from the passenger side...
Or do not park there.
In any case - make sure *you* are parked straight and within
the lines, to avoid being towed.

There is a funny YouTube video of a guy finding only a too
tiny spot in the parking lot, without any other option.
So he decides to wedge his car between the container and the
car in the adjacent spots, first he tries to get his car in
forward, then backward. He loses his mirrors and shoves the
car next to him about 4 inches sideways, smoking his tires
while pushing. Then he finds he cannot exit through either door,
so he leaves his car via the hatch and walks across the roof =

of the car behind him because there is no way to walk around =

his own car.
That dude must have been seriously stressed to park his car now!
